GENERATION
Degraded insulation on windings of generators or motors results in reduced efficiency. Partial discharges occurring at these points also cause further damage. 

During maintenance shutdown CoroCAMs can be used to inspect the disassembled & energized rotor or stator for discharges.
TRANSMISSION
Various Transmission Line hardware can become sources of electrical discharges and may be susceptible to damage by the corona phenomenon.
